129 ac: the aftermath of the dance

After Rhaenyra Targaryen's victory in the Dance of Dragons and her ascent to the Iron Throne in 129 AC, the Reach a major supporter of her faction, faces political tension. While House Tyrell had kept itself neutral. The same cannot be said about their banner house Hightower. Uncertain of Lord Lyonel’s loyalties, the title of head of house is given to his youngest brother Garmund Hightower who is married to Lady Rhaena Targaryen, in an attempt to stop another rebellion from rising. Martyn Hightower, older brother to Garmund, is sent to the Arbor to squire for Lord Redwyne. On the road, however, he encounters Black loyalists and is killed.

133ac: the great harvest riots

After the chaos the Dance had caused the realm, the Reach suffered a temporary decline in their food production. This, combined with the depleted recourse the war had caused them, leads to unrest amongst the smallfolk. Unwin Peake, seeing an opportunity, uses this unrest to stir up discord, questioning House Tyrell’s leadership certainly, when they kept themselves neutral during the war. Lynesse Oakheart, mother to the young Lyonell Tyrell, consuls with her late husband’s castellan and steward on how to handle the matter. Soon, ravens are sent out to House Redwyne, urging Lord Mace Redwyne to take his fleet and remind Unwin of his place. He was taking Unwin to Highgarden together with his grandson. After renewing his oath, Unwin is sent back to Starpike but his grandson is kept at Highgarden as a ward and insurance of Unwin’s loyalty, much to the anger of Uwin’s son Tytos.

144AC - Agricultural Advancements in the Reach

House Hightower, always keen on leveraging the agricultural wealth of the Reach, pioneers new farming techniques with the help of the Maesters from Oldtown. The region begins to see increased yields, particularly around the Mander and Arbor regions.

 

House Redwyne’s wine production flourishes, and they export vast quantities of Arbor Gold to Essos and Dorne.

153AC - REIGN OF JACAERYS I

Jacaerys I Targaryen ascends to the throne amidst widespread rumors questioning his legitimacy, leading to a divided realm. The conflict between Jacaerys' Blue faction and his half-brother Aegon's Red faction, intensified by internal Lannister rivalries, plunges Westeros into further chaos and civil strife.


Serving as his Master of Ships, Mace Redwyne supports his king while his liege lord like House Peake seeks to join the support of Aegon Targaryen instead. Mace is in luck, as a sign of gratitude, Jacaerys weds his son, Baelon to Mace’s daughter Alerie.

156ac: the siege of the red keep

​A coup led by Princes Aegon and Viserys results in the brutal storming of the Red Keep, where King Jacaerys I is killed, plunging the realm into chaos and questioning the legitimacy of his son, Baelon's, claim to the throne. The violent siege also leads to the tragic slaughter of Princess Daenys Targaryen and the young royal children, deepening the realm's despair and instability.

 

Lord Mance Redwyne is among the people who are within the keep when the coop starts. While he does not die, he is heavily wounded, protecting his daughter, and perishes not long after the whole ordeal.

156ac: the flame burns green

After fleeing the Red Keep, Princes Aegon and Viserys are captured in Oldtown. Suspecting to aid the princes, Garmund Hightower is arrested as well and brought back to the Capitol. After a long interrogation, it is his wife Rhaenna upon Morning that comes to his rescue and convinces her nephew to release him and allow the man to return to Oldtown.

169ac: essos invades

As King Baelon I Targaryen wages war against the Essosi invaders in the Stepstones, he calls upon the Redwyne fleet to support his efforts. Gilbert Redwyne, the brother of the late Queen Alerie Redwyne and head of House Redwyne, leads the fleet alongside the Targaryen forces. A decisive victory is won, thanks in part to the dragon assault led by Jacaerys Waters.

170ac: winter arrives

The harsh winter of 170 AC devastates the Reach, although House Tyrell's stores from their bountiful harvest of 145 AC allow them to distribute aid across the region. House Hightower uses the famine as an opportunity to discredit House Tyrell, secretly encouraging peasant revolts in areas controlled by Tyrell's bannermen. However, House Redwyne’s control over the ports ensures vital grain shipments reach Oldtown, stabilizing the region.

178 AC: ryam’s appointment as Hand of the King

The announcement of Vaemond Targaryen being named heir baffles the court. It is however not the only shock Baelon sends causes. Due to the disappearance of his last Hand, Lord Clement Piper, Baelon is forced to appoint a new Hand. Many offer themselves up for the job but there is one man, Ryam Redwyne, who is only six-and-twenty of age who manages to impress the ailing king and at the next court is named the new Hand of the King. While House Tyrell maintains control of the Reach, this, together with the late queen being of House Redwyne, causes the house to elevate in power even more. This causes further friction between House Tyrell and House Redwyne, with Lord Tyrell seeing Ryam’s rise as a direct threat to his influence, only for it to sour completely when the young Lord Hand married Daella Targaryen, bringing him closer to the Iron Throne.

178 AC: the viper and the rose

To secure a lasting peace along Dorne’s northern borders, the Crown Prince of Dorne journeys to Highgarden to propose a marriage alliance between House Martell and House Tyrell, aiming to end the century-old hostility between the two regions.

 

After days of negotiations behind closed doors, the historic pact was forged. No one knows how the game was played, we just assume that it happened, but no one else was in the room where it happened. An agreement that the eldest Martell sister would wed Lord Tyrell, uniting the two powerful houses in marriage and finally putting an end to their bitter rivalry.

180 AC: the arrival of court at harrenhal

As King Baelon I’s health deteriorates, he defies all advice and orders his carriages to be prepared for a journey to Harrenhal, despite being bedridden and gravely ill. With his court in tow, he sets off to confront his estranged son, Prince Jacaerys, who has remained isolated in his crumbling fortress for two years.
